I recently added the Wyoming high school football standings from 1894-1947 to the site. Click here for a full listing of year-by-year standings.

Standings prior to 1948 list overall records only, as district play was loosely organized, each team in a district did not necessarily play every other team in the same district, and district records alone were not how a district champion was determined.

I also combined the 1904, 1905, 1906 and 1907 season pages onto the page that previously listed the results from 1894-1903 only. That’s here. All of the links have been redirected on all the relevant pages.

Big-time site helper Jim Craig helped me with the standings for 1951, 1952, 1953 and 1954, which are now posted.

He also helped me verify one addition: Big Horn’s 27-14 loss to the Sheridan JV on Oct. 31, 1969, in Big Horn.

I also fixed the location for the game between Midwest and Guernsey-Sunrise on Sept. 2, 1983; it was in Midwest, not Guernsey.

I also removed a losing streak from the streaks page. I had Douglas losing 21 games in a row from 1965-68. I don’t know how that happened — Douglas never lost that many in a row.

All of the updates have been reflected on all the relevant pages.

Thanks to Jim Craig’s continuing research, I’ve been able to make the following updates to the site:

Fixed the score of Basin’s 25-6 victory against Shoshoni on Sept. 21, 1956; I had the score transposed, with Shoshoni winning by that score.

Added Cokeville’s 40-26 victory against Mountain View on Sept. 9, 1955. This was actually Mountain View’s first game in program history.

Added Cowley’s 63-30 victory against Belfry, Mont., on either Sept. 9 or 10, 1955 (added to the missing games list because a date and a location couldn’t be verified).

Added Lingle’s 30-24 victory against Sunrise on Oct. 29, 1954.

Added statewide standings for 1955, 1956, 1957 and 1958.

Through my own research, I also found the final score for one more game: Evanston’s 57-0 loss to Montpelier, Idaho, on Oct. 23, 1942. I had already noted that Evanston had lost this game; this update simply provided the final score.

All the changes are reflected on all the relevant pages.

Even though Torrington’s 2015 season did not end in Laramie, it still carried significance in the annals of Blazer football successes.

Last year, the Trailblazers won the Class 3A East Conference championship — the program’s first conference title since 1996 and its first outright title since 1994. I wrote about this in October when I looked into Torrington’s eventual conference title; I knew it had been a while.

But Torrington’s 20-year stretch without a conference title actually isn’t all that rare in Wyoming.

Cheyenne South, Wyoming Indian, Normative Services, Rock River, Farson and St. Stephens haven’t won conference titles yet, or in the case of Farson and St. Stephens, none since 1967 (when my season-by-season conference record listings end).

The next-longest drought belongs to Kelly Walsh, which hasn’t won or shared a conference championship since 1981. Other programs that haven’t won or shared a conference title in this century are Pine Bluffs (1988), Hanna (1989), Big Piney (1990), Lander (1995), Wind River (1997), Thermopolis (1998), and Moorcroft and Pinedale (1999).

These listings come with the caveat that, for several years — some classes more than others — power ratings, not conference standings, determined playoff qualifications. So, for several years in the early 2000s, Wyoming did not have official conference champions. Teams that finished atop the regular-season power ratings for their classifications those years are not awarded conference championships in this analysis.

Big Piney has the most curious case, as the Punchers have won five state titles in the span since their last conference title: 1998 (2nd in conference), 2000 (2nd), 2001 (no conferences due to power ratings), 2004 (no conferences due to power ratings), and 2006 (4th).

Several other programs have shared conference titles this century but haven’t won an outright title in the 2000s:

Newcastle (last shared 2011, last outright 1981)
Rock Springs (last shared 2003, last outright 1989)
Worland (last shared 2009, last outright 1989)
Wheatland (last shared 2015, last outright 1989)
Cheyenne Central (last shared 2007, last outright 1990)
Saratoga (last shared 2007, last outright 1995)
Lingle (last shared 2015, last outright 1996)
Moorcroft (last shared 1999, last outright 1997)
Hulett (last shared 2015, last outright 1999)

Lander’s last title in 1995 was shared; its last outright title came before 1967, when my conference standings records stop.

It’s worth noting here that this list will probably grow rather than shrink over the next few years. Class 4A has just one conference, while other classifications have only two conferences apiece. Winning a conference title has gotten much more difficult the past 15-20 years… which is why so many schools haven’t won conference titles in, oh, 15 or 20 years.

Folks in Torrington know all too well.

Class 1A 11-man East
Lingle, Upton-Sundance: In.
Pine Bluffs, Southeast, Tongue River: Neither in nor out.
Lusk, Moorcroft: Out.
The scenarios for the 1A 11-man East Conference, where the Week 8 schedule is Moorcroft vs. Lingle, Southeast vs. Upton-Sundance and Tongue River vs. Pine Bluffs:

Lingle beats Moorcroft Lin US SE TR PB
US win, PB win (See note 1) 1 2 4 3 out
SE win, PB win 1 3 2 out 4
US win, TR win 1 2 4 3 out
SE win, TR win (See note 2) 1 4 3 2 out
Moorcroft beats Lingle Lin US SE TR PB
US win, PB win (See note 1) 2 1 4 3 out
SE win, PB win 1 3 2 out 4
US win, TR win 3 1 4 2 out
SE win, TR win (See note 3) 1 3 2 4 out

Note 1: In both of these scenarios, where Tongue River, Southeast and Pine Bluffs tie at 3-3 in conference, I believe TR gets the 3 seed for its victory against Lingle, and Southeast gets the 4 for beating Pine head to head.
Note 2: In this scenario, where Upton-Sundance, Southeast and Tongue River tie at 4-2, I believe TR gets the 2 seed for beating Lingle, then Southeast gets the 3 seed for beating U-S head-to-head.
Note 3: I’m unclear on how the WHSAA would break a four-way tie in this scenario, but it looks like Tongue River’s loss to Lusk (the highest-ranking non-tied team where teams don’t have equal records) would knock it down to the 4 seed. Then it’s breaking a 3-way tie between Lingle, Upton-Sundance and Southeast, which Lingle earns due to head-to-head victories over both. Southeast is then the 3 seed due to a head-to-head victory over US.

Class 1A 11-man West
Shoshoni: In. No. 1 seed with victory. No. 2 seed with loss.
Riverside: In. No. 1 seed with victory. Tie for 2-3-4 seeds (coin flip to break) with loss and Cokeville victory. No. 3 seed with loss and Wind River victory.
Cokeville: In. No. 3 seed with victory and Riverside victory. Tie for 2-3-4 seeds (coin flip to break) with victory and Shoshoni victory. No. 4 seed with loss.
Rocky Mountain: In. No. 2 seed with Shoshoni and Wind River victories. Tie for 2-3-4 seeds (coin flip to break) with Shoshoni and Cokeville victories. No. 3 seed with Riverside and Wind River victories. No. 4 seed with Riverside and Cokeville victories.
Burlington, Saratoga, Wind River, Wyoming Indian: Out.

Class 1A six-man East
Guernsey-Sunrise, Hulett, Kaycee: In.
Midwest, Normative Services: Neither in nor out.
Hanna, Rock River: Out.
The scenarios for the 1A six-man East Conference, where the Week 8 schedule is Kaycee vs. Hanna, Midwest vs. NSI and Rock River vs. Hulett:

Kaycee beats Hanna Kay Hul Gue NSI Mid
Mid W, RR W 1 2 3 out 4
Mid W, Hul W 1 2 3 out 4
NSI W, RR W 1 2 4 3 out
NSI W, Hul W 1 2 4 3 out
Hanna beats Kaycee Kay Hul Gue NSI Mid
Mid W, RR W (See note 1) 1 2 3 out 4
Mid W, Hul W 3 1 2 out 4
NSI W, RR W (See note 2) 4 1 3 2 out
NSI W, Hul W 2 1 4 3 out

Note 1: I’m not totally sure how this tie between Kaycee, Hulett and Guernsey would be broken, but I assume Guernsey falls to the 3-seed by virtue of its loss to NSI, and Kaycee gets the 1 over Hulett due to head-to-head victory.
Note 2: Of all the scenarios, this one is the most confusing, but I think in this scenario Kaycee falls to the 4 seed due to its loss to the highest-ranked non-tied team, Hanna. That leaves a three-way tie between Hulett, Guernsey and NSI, which Hulett wins with head-to-head victories over both. NSI would get the 2 over Guernsey due to head-to-head victory.

Class 1A six-man West
Meeteetse: In. No. 1 seed.
Snake River: In. No. 2 seed with victory. No. 3 seed with loss.
Farson: In. No. 2 seed with victory. No. 3 seed with loss.
Dubois: In. No. 4 seed.
St. Stephens, Ten Sleep: Out.

A few quick updates:

Found the score and corrected the date for Huntley’s 33-7 victory against Glenrock on Oct. 18, 1963.

Updated the 5A 2005 all-state list to include Jason Johnson, who was an all-state punter for Cheyenne East. Thanks Jason for catching that omission!

Updated the 1972 standings page to add the B Southwest standings, which I inadvertently left off.

All the updates have been made on all the relevant pages.

Standings for six years of Wyoming high school football have been added to the site.

Standings have now been posted for 1986, 1990, 1992, 1993, 1995 and 1996.

To see all available year-by-year standings, click here.

In the process of adding standings, I realized a couple mistakes. First and foremost, I fixed a score from the 1992 season. On Oct. 2, Riverside beat Hanna 48-14; I had the score reversed, with Hanna winning. Thanks to Karla Pomeroy at the Basin Republican-Rustler for her help in verifying this fix!

Second, I realized I had miscalculated a couple season records. I miscounted Mountain View’s 1996 record — that year, the Buffalos went 6-3, not 7-2. I also fixed Saratoga’s 1990 record — the Panthers were 4-4, not 5-2. In an unrelated fix, I also corrected Sheridan’s record in 1974 — the Broncs were 3-6, not 2-7. The fixes are reflected on all the relevant pages.

Year-by-year conference standings have been added to the records available here at wyoming-football.com.

Conference standings are available back to 1967, although not all years between then and now are available. Regular-season power ratings are also available for the 2001-08 seasons.

To see the conference standings that are available, check out the results by year page.
