2 Thoughts on “Shrine Bowl North squad coaches announced

  1. Patrick,
I have to say that I am completely confused as to why the shrine bowl and all star wyoming-montana basketball games are set consistently on the same date depriving those athletes who could play in both events the chance. Do you hav any idea why these two events always overlap? Is it possible to work towards changing this?

Good question, Colby. I’m sure most of it has to do with timing — trying to catch all of the all-stars after graduation but before summer really begins. Push either one back (or forward) a week, and you start getting interference from graduations or from summer jobs/college commitments. It’s a tough balance.

With basketball, it’s two separate groups that run the Wyoming-Montana and Wyoming-South Dakota series; the Wyo-South Dakota series has taken over the weekend right after the Shrine Bowl, so moving the Wyo-Montana series back a week really isn’t an option. Also, the all-star hoops and the Shrine Bowl are run by two separate outfits, so there’s no reason that they have to work together… although it would be convenient if they could.

Generally, though, only about three or four athletes a year are ever put in the situation of choosing one or the other. Easier to inconvenience those three or four than to rearrange the entire schedule, I suppose. (Of course, there are those folks who want to watch both, too, although those numbers are generally small, as well.)
