The Casper Star-Tribune announced its 20th anniversary Super 25 team on Friday, a selection of the 25 best high school players over the past 20 years. You can see the list here and read a story about a few of the players here.

I was one of the people who helped pick this list of players. In doing so, I got to thinking about an all-time all-state team and who would be on it. If we were to pick Wyoming’s 25 best players of all time, who would be on it?

I never got any further than the thinking stage, but it’s an intriguing question to pose. Who would be on your top 25 of all-time? Post some thoughts below, if you’re so inclined, and maybe someday I’ll get past the thinking stage about all this….

9 Thoughts on “Super 25 20th anniversary team

Patrick—nice team—however, you folks have failed in the running back department. I believe Casey Cutler from Green River should have been on the team. Cutler is the only big class running back to rush for over 2,000 yards in a season in the past 20 years. He was a two time super 25 player. He rushed for over 3,400 yards in three seasons and scored 46 touchdowns. This was against the big schools. He should be on the team. Having just picked my top 25 green river players over the past 25 years, (this was my 25th year as the voice of the wolves) I know first hand how hard it is to pick the best, but I would like to know the thought process of leaving Cutler off this team. In my 25 years of doing play by play, Cutler is by far and away the best running back I’ve seen, including some of the 4a backs on your team. Just my thoughts, thanks for letting me vent. Steve Core

Gregg Sawyer was a great athlete but I wouldn’t put him in the top five football players at Burns in the last 20 Years let alone the super 25. This is for high school football not what they did after in other sports.

Nobody from Riverton in the top 75-WOW

Sorry I was reading the 2010 Super 25 and my last post was for that thread not the anniversary team which I an in no way qualified to judge. Was surprised no one from Riverton in the top 75 according to the Casper paper insert.

  5. This is always a fun topic, and there are always players left off…..I would like to think Tyler Ashton of Lyman got some consideration. He was Super 25 his senior year and the Super 25 defensive player of the year that same year. I have never seen a better high school defensive player. He seemed to be in on every tackle, and it was no different when he played with the big boys at the shrine bowl even though they moved him from his middle backer spot to strong safety. He went on to a very good college career at Utah State, and then the University of Mary.

  6. Micah Nelson and John Aimone of Mountain View also come to mind.

How about John Chick and Brady Poppinga, both guys who have spent time in the NFL?

  8. Brady Poppinga is a huge snub.

Heres my big problem with the team that is selected. It seems its based on what a player did after they left high school. This should have been based on high school, not college, nfl ect.
