By the way, I was trying to do a rough count of how many teams have artificial surfaces now: Cody, Star Valley, Natrona, Sheridan, Pinedale, Riverton (kinda), Jackson (I think?)…. Who else has made the switch?

Jackson has turf now, what’s interesting is the subtle differences outside the actual football lines. SV has about three feet inbetween the track and the soccer line, Jackson has about ten. I would say that the layout favors track in SV and soccer in Jackson. I didn’t know that Cody was getting turf, SV played them in a crazy-cold old-fashioned slugfest on their grass last year, I guess it’s gone now

i think its kind of good that Cody is getting turf, because their field was terrible when we played them there last year. the ground gave more punishing hits than the players.

The turf install up in Cody was news to me, too. But the number of schools that have turf is now creeping close to double digits. And of course UW. When NC got it, I thought they’d be the only ones for a loooooong time. Obviously teams are finding benefits (less maintenance, fewer worries about weather, turf is getting cheaper, etc.). Interesting trend. It will be fun to see if any other schools add it now that it’s the thing all the cool kids are doing.

I’m an old-school type of guy. I like Marty-ball, power running, cold weather and tradition. But I gotta say, I wouldn’t trade our facility now for anything else. It’s amazing. We get snow earlier and later than a lot of Wyoming communities and it just melts off now and drains away like magic! Considering I graduated in 1995 (not all that long ago right?) and our field was about 60 years old, had cars parking up to the out of bounds lines honking and flashing their lights and a gym to match, I honestly can’t believe what we have now. I’m just grateful to not be Idaho, their athletic programs are getting pounded finance-wise

It looks like Rock Springs has added turf for the 2010 season, too. I just saw a picture today and it looks very nice.

And that brings us to an even 10 teams with artificial turf.
