I picked up seven more updates from my recent work on the Byes Project:

Lingle’s 51-14 win over the Gering, Neb., JV on Oct. 3, 1962

Burns’ 36-14 loss to Morrill, Neb., on Sept. 30, 1988

Kemmerer’s 19-6 loss to Montpelier, Idaho, on Sept. 8, 1961

Big Horn’s 21-0 loss to the Sheridan JV on Oct. 16, 1964

I also added three games from Moorcroft’s 1963 season: a 18-0 victory over the Gillette JV on Sept. 7, a 23-0 victory over Oelrichs, S.D., on Sept. 13, and a 13-6 loss to Midwest on Oct. 18.

I also found a game on Oct. 14, 1966, with Saratoga playing at Lingle, but I couldn’t find a final score (yet).

I also took care of three games on the missing games list:

Added Cokeville’s 47-12 victory over Lyman on Oct. 4, 1960….

Found the location of Guernsey’s 26-0 victory over the Natrona JV on Aug. 30, 1980 — it was in Casper….

Removed a game set for Sept. 6, 1968, between the Ogden School for the Deaf and Cokeville — the two teams played Sept. 20 in Cokeville.

I’m also digging into Cokeville’s 1969 and 1970 seasons. It looks like I might be missing a couple games in there. We’ll see what I can find.

Eight additions and one correction to add to the site this week, thanks to the Byes Project:

Big Horn’s 34-0 victory over the Greybull JV on Sept. 18, 1975

Burns’ 12-0 victory over Goshen Hole on Sept. 2, 1976

Meeteetse’s 7-6 victory over Wind River on Sept. 17, 1976

Shoshoni’s 12-10 loss to the Riverton JV on Aug. 28, 1982

Buffalo’s 24-8 victory over the Billings Senior (Mont.) JV on Sept. 15, 1980

Wind River’s 28-6 victory over Dubois on Sept. 12, 1980

Manderson’s 20-7 victory over the Thermopolis JV on Oct. 25, 1963

Manderson’s 26-2 victory over the Greybull JV on Sept. 4, 1964

I also found the correct location for Byron’s 42-7 victory over Dubois on Sept. 5, 1980 — it was in Dubois.

The only other addition I made was Bow-Basin’s Oct. 19, 1980 game at the Laramie JVs. I found the game scheduled, but I have yet to find the final score. It’s been added to the missing games list.

I’ve got a 10- to 12-page paper in Communication Theory due this week, so it’ll probably be a couple weeks before I can hit the microfilm again….

With the Byes Project, I’ve added 18 more games and made one correction to a score I had wrong. Here’s what’s new:

Lovell’s 14-6 loss to the Billings West, Mont., JV on Oct. 13, 1971

Lusk’s 20-0 loss to Belle Fourche, S.D., on Sept. 3, 1971

Sheridan’s 23-0 loss to Billings West, Mont., on Sept. 11, 1976

Star Valley’s 25-6 win over Spanish Fork, Utah, on Aug. 28, 1976

Green River’s 30-13 loss to Boxelder, Utah, on Sept. 2, 1977

Greybull’s 40-20 win over the Sheridan JV on Sept. 2, 1977

Star Valley’s 29-24 win over Lovell on Sept. 16, 1977

Jackson’s 13-0 loss to Teton, Idaho, on Sept. 16, 1977

Evanston’s 7-0 win over Bear Lake, Idaho, on Sept. 8, 1978

Saratoga’s 44-0 win over the Natrona JV on Sept. 11, 1982

Basin’s 40-8 win over the Cody sophs on Sept. 2, 1982

Burlington’s 34-8 win over Ten Sleep on Oct. 14, 1987

Pavillion’s 19-6 win over Morton on Sept. 28, 1962

Morton’s 13-12 win over Manderson on Oct. 3, 1962

Basin’s 31-13 win over the Worland JV on Sept. 5, 1964

Lyman’s 41-0 win over Wyoming Indian on Oct. 3, 1986

Lyman’s 34-0 loss to Lehi, Utah, on Sept. 11, 1987

Greybull’s 24-6 win over the Billings Central, Mont., JV on Sept. 12, 1970

I also corrected Green River’s 26-8 loss to Bonneville, Utah, on Sept. 9, 1977. I had listed Green River winning 26-0.

All of these scores and updated records are reflected on all the relevant pages.

The Byes Project itself is going pretty well. Nearly every week for the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s has been accounted for, and every week in the 2000s is accounted for. I’m trying to wrap some of this stuff up before I continue to plow backward into the 1940s; I’m about halfway done researching 1945, while 1946-50 are done. Any additional years I get done before Thanksgiving will be uploaded at the end of the 2009 season.

As grad school takes up most of my time, site updates might be posted less frequently…. and writing about the 2009 season itself will probably cut into some research time, too. But that’s OK. I’m still having fun with this!

Nine games have been added and four more corrected in the database thanks to the Byes Project and some double-checking on my part.

These nine games were added:

Lusk’s 40-0 loss to Mitchell, Neb., on Sept. 16, 1977

Cody’s 7-2 loss to Laurel, Mont., on Sept. 9, 1978

Byron’s 32-0 win over Wyoming Indian on Aug. 25, 1978

Ten Sleep’s 12-6 win over North Big Horn on Sept. 8, 1978

Cody JV’s 36-22 win over North Big Horn on Oct. 1, 1982

Sheridan JV’s 32-14 win over Big Horn on Oct. 10, 1967

Big Horn’s 23-8 win over the Gillette JV on Sept. 20, 1980

Tongue River’s 12-9 win over the Billings West, Mont., JV on Sept. 12, 1987

Lyman’s 40-20 win over South Rich, Utah, on Sept. 21, 1962

In addition, the scores for the following games were corrected:

Byron beat Wind River 30-22 on Aug. 30, 1974. I had Wind River winning by the same score.

Glenrock beat Wheatland 14-0 on Oct. 25, 1975 in Glenrock. I had Wheatland winning 14-10 in Wheatland.

Tongue River beat Greybull 13-0 on Sept. 3, 1982. I had Greybull winning 13-0.

Lyman beat Hanna 26-6 on Sept. 14, 1962. I had listed Lyman, Neb., not Lyman, Wyo., as the winning team.

With the updates, a couple changes have been made on the streaks page, notably to a pair of losing streaks. With Greybull’s loss to Tongue River in 1982, the Buffs’ losing streak for 1978-82 grew to 35 games — a state record. Also, Wyoming Indian’s losing streak from 1975-79, third-longest in state history, grew to 32 games.

All of the other updates have been reflected on the relevant pages.

There are certain teams and certain eras that I know have not been fully researched. I tackled two of those today: Upton in the late ’50s and early ’60s, and Pine Bluffs in the mid-’60s.

Almost all of the games I was missing for Upton involved South Dakota opponents. Thanks to the research I did today, I’ve added or put a score into a blank space for the following games:

A 27-6 win over Edgemont, S.D., on Sept. 13, 1963

A 41-14 loss to the Rapid City, S.D., JV on Oct. 10, 1963

A 21-0 win over Rapid City Cathedral, S.D., on Oct. 18, 1963

A 31-0 loss to Edgemont, S.D., on Sept. 15, 1961

A 21-13 loss to the Rapid City, S.D., JV on Oct. 12, 1961

A 13-0 win over Rapid City Cathedral, S.D., on Oct. 20, 1961

A 33-26 loss to Edgemont, S.D., on Sept. 16, 1960

A 26-13 win over Rapid City Cathedral, S.D., on Oct. 21, 1960

A 42-6 win over Edgemont, S.D., on Sept. 18, 1959

A 27-12 win over the Rapid City, S.D., JV on Oct. 15, 1959

A 21-6 loss to Buffalo on Oct. 3, 1958

A 38-0 win over the Rapid City, S.D., JV on Oct. 17, 1958

I also found the correct location for the Nov. 1, 1957 game between Upton and Midwest; it was in Upton.

As for Pine Bluffs, it gets kind of tricky. The Hornets were a member of the “Minuteman Conference,” made up of teams from western Nebraska, for a couple years. That makes tracking down results a little bit tougher. Even so, three games were added today:

A 47-25 win over Lodgepole, Neb., on Oct. 27, 1965

A 26-0 win over Dalton, Neb., on Sept. 18, 1964

A 19-12 loss to Lodgepole, Neb., on Oct. 7, 1964

I also tried to do some research on Jackson in the mid-60s, but ran into more questions than answers. I added a 19-0 loss to Montpelier, Idaho, on Oct. 28, 1966, but also came up short on games in two weeks that were originally listed as byes: a game with the Rock Springs JV on Oct. 15, 1966, and a game with Montpelier on Oct. 27, 1967.

I also added Lingle’s 13-7 win over the Cheyenne Central sophomores on Oct. 17, 1964, noted the correct location for the Oct. 23, 1965 game between Glendo and the Natrona JV (it was in Casper) and noted the Sept. 25, 1964 game between Guernsey-Sunrise and Huntley was played in Torrington (it was Torrington’s off week and Huntley’s homecoming).

I also corrected two entries. The Oct. 22, 1994 game between Wind River and the Riverton sophs was corrected with the right score (20-0 Wind River); I had originally listed a 20-20 tie but I’ve known for quite a while that it was a typo. I finally corrected it today after tracking down the right score. I also removed a duplicate entry of a game from October 1981 between Lovell and Greybull. The correct entry, for Oct. 14, was retained, while an erroneous entry on Oct. 16 was removed.

The removal of that game caused Greybull’s losing streak from 1978-82 to change again, dropping back to 27 games. That, again, has been updated on the streaks page.

All other corrections and new entries are now reflected on the relevant pages.

Another hard day in the library yielded some interesting new results — a finished record of the 1946 season and updates to 21 games via the Byes Project and the missing games list.

These games were added to the database via the Byes Project:

Burlington’s 20-14 loss to the Riverside JV on Sept. 12, 1988

Greybull’s 20-8 loss to the Cody JV on Oct. 18, 1980

Rocky Mountain’s 12-6 win over Wind River on Sept. 16, 1988

Thermopolis’ 6-0 loss to the Kelly Walsh JV on Sept. 5, 1981

Encampment’s 32-18 loss to the Saratoga JV on Sept. 10, 1988

Wind River’s 20-7 win over the Riverton JV on Sept. 3, 1988

Pine Bluffs’ 6-2 win over Burns on Sept. 5, 1980

Mountain View’s 20-6 win over the Evanston JV somewhere between Sept. 2-5, 1981

Mountain View’s 19-12 loss to the Jackson JV (location unknown) on Sept. 11, 1981

Newcastle’s 13-6 win over Douglas, S.D., on Sept. 4, 1981

Moorcroft’s 13-12 loss to Lead, S.D., on Sept. 4, 1981

These games were updated from the Missing Games list:

Hanna’s 42-6 win over the Rawlins JV on Aug. 27, 2004 (Hanna’s win had been previously noted, but not the score)

Hanna’s 55-20 win over the Rawlins JV on Oct. 18, 2000

Saratoga’s 55-6 loss to the Laramie JV on Oct. 10, 1998 (Saratoga’s loss had been previously noted, but not the score)

Guernsey-Sunrise’s 32-6 win over Upton on Sept. 9, 1994

Kemmerer’s 18-0 loss to the Green River JV on Oct. 17, 1991

Saratoga’s 6-0 loss to the Laramie JV on Oct. 17, 1991

Three games were listed on the missing games list but actually were not played and have been removed: Burlington-Rocky Mountain JV on Sept. 30, 1988; Thermopolis-Columbus, Mont., on Sept. 16, 1983 (this was actually a jamboree contest with Columbus and the Billings West JV, so it is not counted); and Thermopolis-Lovell on Oct. 17, 1980.

Wheatland’s game on Aug. 29, 1969, against the Cheyenne East JV was also updated; the score has not been found, but Wheatland did lose the game.

All the updates have been made on the relevant pages, including the standings by percentage and the standings by wins. In addition, the Greybull loss to the Cody JV in Oct. 1980 extended the Buffaloes’ losing streak in that span to 28 games, a change noted on the streaks page.

My school and work schedules will increase steadily over the next couple weeks, so there will probably be fewer opportunities for me to work on the historical scores. However, you will probably begin to see more posts here about the upcoming 2009 season… be sure to check back often to see what’s new.

–patrick

Seven more games were added to the database today courtesy of the Byes Project:

Wyoming Indian’s 16-0 loss to the Dubois JV on Sept. 15, 1972

Wyoming Indian’s 28-12 loss to the Meeteetse JV on Oct. 5, 1972

Wyoming Indian’s 56-28 loss to the Dubois JV on Oct. 14, 1972

Lusk’s 28-7 loss to Lingle on Sept. 19, 1980

Lusk’s 16-0 win over Guernsey-Sunrise on Sept. 26, 1980

Rocky Mountain’s 36-6 loss to Shepherd, Mont., on Sept. 3, 1988

Mountain View’s 36-18 win over the Rock Springs sophs on Sept. 13, 1990

If you’ll notice, three of the games are from Wyoming Indian’s inaugural 1972 season. One of the more interesting quirks in Wyoming football is that the Chiefs’ first game in program history came against Medicine Bow (or Bow-Basin, depending on the era in which you grew up) on Sept. 9, 1972 — and that game was also Medicine Bow’s first game in ITS program history. Quirky. I also added the Chiefs’ coaches for the 1972, 1973 and 1974 seasons to their team page.

Two of the other games came from Lusk’s 1980 season.

I also deleted a duplicate entry from 1964 involving the Oct. 2 game between Big Horn and Moorcroft.

Also, research for the years 1947-50 is complete. I likely won’t be posting those results until after the 2009 season, as it’s much easier to updates like that in one fell swoop rather than bit by bit. My hope is to be able to finish up research on all years from 1940-50 before the end of this season and have all those results posted by Christmas. Wish me luck….

–patrick

Two new updates, both from 1994:

The first comes with a corrected score. Thermopolis beat Glenrock 58-16 on Sept. 30; I had the score reversed, with Glenrock beating Thermopolis.

The second comes with a game found with the Byes Project. Pine Bluffs beat the Cheyenne Central sophomores 28-6 on Sept. 12 in Cheyenne.

Both games have been added/corrected, with updates made to the relevant pages.

Also, some news out of Guernsey: boys basketball coach Casey Moats has taken the reins of the football program. Moats was Guernsey’s defensive coordinator the past few years (Guernsey Gazette).

–patrick

The 1980 season is one of those I know I’ve under-researched, and I put a big dent into that today by adding six games involving Lyman and Mountain View. For Lyman, I added a 6-0 loss to Big Piney on Aug. 29, a 42-6 victory over Mountain View on Sept. 12, a 7-6 victory over Big Piney on Sept. 19 and a 49-0 victory over Mountain View on Oct. 10. For Mountain View, I added the two Lyman losses, a 46-0 loss to the Rock Springs JV on Sept. 6 and a 26-12 loss to the Evanston JV on Sept. 17.

Conversely, I added the two Lyman games to Big Piney’s records, too.

For the season, Lyman finished 3-5, Mountain View 0-7 and Big Piney 3-5. The changes have all been recorded on the relevant pages.

–patrick

Today I added 14 new game results to the database thanks to the Byes Project (now that it’s yielded results, I’ve decided to capitalize it). The following games were found on the microfilm and added:

Lingle’s 14-0 win over Guernsey-Sunrise on Oct. 6, 1994

Lingle’s 36-6 win over the Cheyenne Central sophomores on Oct. 15, 1994

Hulett’s 26-6 win over the Gillette JV on Sept. 6, 1994

Ten Sleep’s 28-24 win over the Powell JV on Oct. 12, 1999

Meeteetse’s 64-6 win over Wyoming Indian on Sept. 2, 1977

Basin’s 12-0 win over Meeteetse on Aug. 27, 1977

Preston, Idaho’s, 35-16 win over Kemmerer on Sept. 1, 1978

Marsh Valley, Idaho’s, 20-6 win over Kemmerer on Sept. 8, 1978

Dubois’ 26-0 win over Byron on Sept. 2, 1978

Dubois’ 43-0 win over North Big Horn on Sept. 23, 1978

Wind River’s 14-8 win over Byron on Sept. 15, 1978

Lincoln Pius X, Neb.’s, win over Sheridan on Sept. 9, 1995

Lovell’s 31-13 win over Newcastle on Oct. 2, 1998

Bear Lake, Idaho’s, 20-9 win over Star Valley on Sept. 17, 1999

Conversely, the overall records and winning percentages for 16 schools have changed, throwing some alterations into the standings by percentage and to the standings by wins. Also, Wyoming Indian’s losing streak from 1975-79 increased from 30 to 31 games thanks to the loss to Meeteetse; that change has been reflected on the streaks page.

The Byes Project is an effort to account for all “Open” weeks in which schools have no games listed.

As always, if you see an error or an omission in the game-by-game result listings, feel free to let me know. My e-mail address is pschmiedt@yahoo.com.
