Another arm of this site is dedicated to tracking down the names of the coaches for each school for each season. I’m seeking some help with this project, too, and to help let you know what I’m missing, I’ve set up a page with a checklist of what I’m missing.

Click here to see the list of what I need. The same page is permalinked above, along with the radio station guide and the “about” page.

I made a big Coaches Project update today. A few years ago, my dad gave me his old WHSAA directories from 1976, 1984 and 1985. Thanks to those, I plugged in some of the missing coaches for Basin, Bow-Basin, Byron, Cokeville, Cowley, Deaver-Frannie, Glendo, Greybull, Hanna, Lander, Lyman, Moorcroft, St. Mary’s, Saratoga, Ten Sleep, Wind River and Wyoming Indian. Check out those individual team pages to see the updates.

Anyway, if you can help, that would be awesome. I especially need help for Cokeville, Green River, Greybull, Hanna, Lander, Lingle, Lyman, Moorcroft, Rawlins, Saratoga, Ten Sleep, Thermopolis, Torrington and Wyoming Indian, as well as all the defunct programs.

As always, e-mail me at pschmiedt@yahoo.com if you have some help you can drop my way. Thanks!

Thanks to Shawn Burkart down in Goshen County, I’ve now got almost every coach listed for Goshen Hole High School. This has been a big gray area for me (coaches of programs/schools that are no longer in existence), so this was a big help. Thanks Shawn!

As you can tell by the title, I’ve added and/or corrected several games to the database, thanks to continued work on the Byes Project and the missing games list. In all, 20 games were either added or corrected….

New additions:

Added Lyman’s 27-6 loss to Park City, Utah in 1968 (but also added it to the missing games list because of the unknown date (Sept. 5 or 6) and the unknown location)

Added Newcastle’s 13-12 loss to the Rapid City, S.D., JV on Oct. 21, 1966

Added Guernsey-Sunrise’s 13-6 victory over the Torrington JV on Sept. 4, 1965 (but also added it to the missing games list because of the unknown location)

Added Huntley’s 26-20 victory over the Natrona JV on Oct. 16, 1965

Added Saratoga’s 33-14 loss to the Laramie JV on Sept. 28, 1963

Added Ten Sleep’s 38-0 victory over Manderson on Oct. 10, 1961

Correction:

I corrected Cokeville’s opponent on Oct. 24, 1969 — it was Montpelier, Idaho, NOT Nampa, Idaho.

Missing games:

I made significant progress for Pine Bluffs’ 1962 season. I found scores for two games — Pine Bluffs beat Sterling St. Anthony’s (CO) 39-25 on Oct. 6 and Sunrise 19-12 on Oct. 26 — and found the location for the Sept. 14 game against Lingle (in Pine Bluffs).

Found the date for the Oct. 3, 2000, game between Normative Services and the Buffalo JV

Found the location for the Sept. 12, 1980, game between Burns and St. Mary’s (in Burns)

Found both the date and location for the Sept. 1, 1978, game between Star Valley and Logan, Utah (in Logan)

Found the date and corrected the location for the Oct. 1, 1976, game between Moorcroft and Edgemont, S.D. (it was in Moorcroft — the Wolves’ homecoming, in fact)

Found the score and corrected the date for the Oct. 17, 1968 game between Upton and the Rapid City sophomores; Upton won 6-0

Found a score for the Oct. 21, 1966, game between Pine Bluffs and Lyman, Neb.; Lyman, Neb., won 36-13

Found out that Huntley won its Sept. 15, 1965, game with the Gering, Neb., JV (but it remains on the missing games list because I didn’t find a final score)

Found out four games — an Oct. 27, 1969, game between Cokeville and Big Piney, a Sept. 2, 1966, game between Lyman and South Rich, Utah, a Oct. 14, 1966, game between Saratoga and Lingle, and a Oct. 11, 1963, game between Ten Sleep and Arvada-Clearmont — were canceled

Misc/future:

Thanks to coach Tim Gonzales in Mountain View, I now have a complete list of the Buffalos’ head coaches from the start of the program to the present. Thanks a ton, coach!

As for forthcoming updates, well, they’re forthcoming. The 2009 season will be up on the site soon, and will be accompanied by the 1946, 1947, 1948, 1949 and 1950 seasons… that’s why this update is taking a little bit longer than usual.

As always, if you see any incorrect, missing or misplaced information on this site, let me know at pschmiedt@yahoo.com.

A pair of new coaches are taking over programs in the Bighorn Basin (Lovell Chronicle). Tim Winland returns to take the top spot for the Rocky Mountain program, while Doug Hazen takes over for Ken Boatwright in Lovell, becoming the Bulldogs’ third coach in three years.

While it looks like 4A retained all of its coaches from 2008 to 2009, there has been some movement at the lower levels. Both Hanna and Guernsey changed coaches, as well, and Thermopolis was also searching for a new coach but I haven’t heard how that search ended up.

Does anyone else know about any new coaching changes around the state?

Seven more games were added to the database today courtesy of the Byes Project:

Wyoming Indian’s 16-0 loss to the Dubois JV on Sept. 15, 1972

Wyoming Indian’s 28-12 loss to the Meeteetse JV on Oct. 5, 1972

Wyoming Indian’s 56-28 loss to the Dubois JV on Oct. 14, 1972

Lusk’s 28-7 loss to Lingle on Sept. 19, 1980

Lusk’s 16-0 win over Guernsey-Sunrise on Sept. 26, 1980

Rocky Mountain’s 36-6 loss to Shepherd, Mont., on Sept. 3, 1988

Mountain View’s 36-18 win over the Rock Springs sophs on Sept. 13, 1990

If you’ll notice, three of the games are from Wyoming Indian’s inaugural 1972 season. One of the more interesting quirks in Wyoming football is that the Chiefs’ first game in program history came against Medicine Bow (or Bow-Basin, depending on the era in which you grew up) on Sept. 9, 1972 — and that game was also Medicine Bow’s first game in ITS program history. Quirky. I also added the Chiefs’ coaches for the 1972, 1973 and 1974 seasons to their team page.

Two of the other games came from Lusk’s 1980 season.

I also deleted a duplicate entry from 1964 involving the Oct. 2 game between Big Horn and Moorcroft.

Also, research for the years 1947-50 is complete. I likely won’t be posting those results until after the 2009 season, as it’s much easier to updates like that in one fell swoop rather than bit by bit. My hope is to be able to finish up research on all years from 1940-50 before the end of this season and have all those results posted by Christmas. Wish me luck….

I’m reposting and updating a bit of information from the Coaches Project, which I started in earnest this spring. I’m trying to find out the head coach for every school for each season. I got a huge boost from the 1994 Shrine Bowl program, but I’ve still got a few questions that have yet to be answered….

Below is a list of schools and years for which the head coach is not known. Take a look at the list and see if you know who was the head coach at these schools in the years listed.

Cokeville, Green River, Guernsey-Sunrise, Hanna, Jackson, Lander, Lingle, Lyman, Mountain View, Pinedale, Ten Sleep, Tongue River, Torrington and Wyoming Indian are the lists in greatest need of updates and help.

This list does not include the fact that I’m missing the names of coaches for basically every single defunct program, too. So… if you can find coaches for Albin, Arvada-Clearmont, Basin, Bow-Basin, Byron, St. Mary’s, Chugwater, Cowley, Dayton, Deaver-Frannie, Encampment, Farson, Glendo, Goshen Hole, Guernsey, Huntley, LaGrange, Manderson, Manville, Morton, North Big Horn, Pavillion, Ranchester, Reliance, St. Stephens, Snake River, Sunrise, Superior or Worland Institute, I will be glad to post those, as well.

I’m also missing first names for a ton of coaches, and if you can fill those in, that would be awesome. Take a look at the individual team pages to see where you might be able to help.

For existing schools, the following coaches’ names are needed (big missing gaps in bold):

Burlington: 1955 and 1958

Cokeville: All from 1951-79

Green River: All from 1951-71

I’ve added the bulk of the all-state teams from 1960-64. The only one I’m missing is the Class B-C all-state team from 1963. Otherwise, that time frame looks to be fairly complete. Check it out.

I also added coaches for Burlington, Jackson, Meeteetse and Douglas for 1998. Look at those individual team pages to see those updates.

–patrick

I’ve made three quick updates today:

1. I added some all-state teams from 1965-70 to the all-state page. I couldn’t find very many, so what you see is what I have….

2. I’ve updated the Kelly Walsh-Rapid City (S.D.) Stevens game on Sept. 26, 1980, to reflect the right location. The game was in Casper, not Rapid City. Thanks to Frank to pointing out the error!

3. I found coaches for the 1995 season, and their names have been added on the team pages for Jackson, Newcastle and Hanna.

After putting together the coaching project (see below), I still have a few gaps I need to fill in. I’m trying to do most of these myself, but if you can help me out, especially with the schools that have big gaps, I’d appreciate it.

This list does not include the fact that I’m missing the names of coaches for basically every single defunct program, too. I’m also missing first names for a ton of coaches, and if you can fill those in, that would be awesome. Take a look at the individual team pages to see where you might be able to help.
