Links to the weekly rankings for each season are available on the results by year page.

Statewide rankings of Wyoming high school football teams began in the 1920s. However, most rankings were done by individual newspapers. No formal statewide poll began until the 1940s or 1950s, with polls consistently being done since 1955.

Two statewide polls – one by the Associated Press, one by United Press International – ran from the 1950s through the 1980s. The United Press International, run by the Wyoming Association of Sportswriters and Sportscasters between 1956 and 1959, poll stopped after the 1983 season. The Associated Press poll continued through the 2000 season.

No statewide polls were conducted in 2001 or 2002; weekly rankings from the Casper Star-Tribune for those two seasons are used for wyoming-football.com. The 2003 polls were conducted by KTAK/KVOW radio in Riverton.

Since 2004, statewide polls have been conducted by wyopreps.com.

The top five teams in each classification have been ranked since 1972. From 1965-70, the top 10 teams in both Class AA/A and Class B were ranked in the UPI polls, while the top 10 in all classes were ranked in the single AP poll. (In 1971, the AP ran top fives for Class AA, Class A and Class B, while UPI ran top 10s in Class AA/A and Class B.) Prior to 1965, both polls ranked the top 10 teams regardless of classification.

RECORDS
Prior to 1984, “ranked” or “No. 1” means ranked in either the AP or UPI/WASS poll. If only one poll is scheduled in a particular week, an “NR” or a non-No. 1 rank ends either streak.
