A few months ago, I picked up a copy of A Century of Utah High School Football, which chronicles the Beehive State’s football history from 1893 to 1993. It’s a great resource, thoroughly researched by author George B. Felt. If you have any interest in high school football and/or Utah, it’s a great book to grab.

I can’t help but think that if I had begun this project 15 years ago, I’d have done the same thing — put all my research into a book. Hey, maybe it’s still coming. We’ll see.

Anyway, ACOUHSF has helped me fill in a few gaps in my research, but even more so, it’s created more questions. I double-checked all my Utah scores with the ACOUHSF book, and while most of them matched up, a few didn’t. On top of that, ACOUHSF listed some games that I don’t have.

I’ll start chipping away at answering some of these questions when and as I can. As I find/change any errors or inaccuracies, I’ll post them here.

The Utah experience only helps solidify a growing frustration I have with this research — out-of-state games. Take a look at my missing games list, and you’ll notice that a good portion of them are out-of-state games.

But that’s another rant for another time. For now, here’s a huge shout-out to Mr. Felt and ACOUHSF. Great work. Thank you.

I’ve made a few small adjustments to the site the past couple days, mostly site maintenance and template transfer stuff. The two big changes are on the state champions page and the all-state page.

The state champions page now lists the total number of appearances for each school in the state championship game and the record for each team. It’s at the bottom of the page under the header “Championship game appearances.”

The all-state page now has links to the all-district teams from 1955. Thanks to Bob for those images. As always, I’m interested in updating the all-state page with every team, so if you have a copy of an all-state team from any year that I don’t have, please e-mail it to me.

Research continues. Research on the 1950 season is almost complete and 1949 is about halfway done. Look for those updates as soon as I can finish them.
