Meeteetse has hired Matt Jensen as its head football coach.

Jensen had been at Stanley County High School in Fort Pierre, S.D., for the past four years, including two years as head football coach. Prior to that, he coached football at Winner, S.D.

Jensen verified his hiring via telephone with wyoming-football.com on Tuesday.

Jensen replaces Levi Stephens, who went 8-18 in three years with the Longhorns. Meeteetse went 6-4 last year and reached the state six-man semifinals.

Former Teton (Idaho) defensive coordinator Rob Anderson has been hired as the head coach at Thermopolis.

Anderson — the brother of Lyman coach Dale Anderson — was at Teton for nine years, the last three as defensive coordinator.

Anderson verified the hiring via telephone with wyoming-football.com today.

He will also be the head girls basketball coach at Thermopolis; he was the head boys basketball coach at Teton before leaving for the Bobcats. The Teton football team qualified for the Idaho Class 3A playoffs a year ago but lost in the first round.

A native of Mackay, Idaho, Anderson said he met with the teams in Thermopolis last week and will move to Thermopolis later this month.

One addition and one fix to the scores listed on the site:

Added Midwest’s 7-6 loss to the Kelly Walsh JV on Sept. 5, 1970.

Fixed the score for Lander’s 28-6 victory over Rock Springs on Sept. 20, 1974. (I had the score reversed, with Rock Springs winning.)

All the changes have been made on all the relevant pages.

Here is a quick look at the two records broken in the North’s 34-6 victory over the South in the 40th annual Shrine Bowl on Saturday — both by Natrona’s Brecken Biggs:

Total offense: Biggs, 358 yards (280 passing, 78 rushing); beat old record of 308 set by Natrona’s Corky Davis, 1975.

Touchdown passes: Biggs, 4; ties old record set by Upton’s Darin Schiller, 1984, and Wheatland’s Ward Anderson, 2011.

The North now leads the all-time series 19-18-3.

The 40th annual Shrine Bowl will kick off at 7 p.m. Saturday at Cheney Alumni Field in Casper. Here are some interesting notes to keep in mind as we head toward the game:

* The all-time record is tied at 18-18-3.

* Head coaches Michael McGuire (North, Big Horn) and Mark Bullington (South, Southeast) are both head coach for the second time. This is the fourth Shrine Bowl in which both head coaches have already been head coaches; it previously happened in 1992, 2000 and 2003. Also, in 1997, Gary Glenn and Todd Dayton co-coached the South team after each had already been a head coach in the Shrine Bowl.

* Both Natrona and Sheridan have players in the Shrine Bowl this year. Those two schools are the only ones in the state that have had at least one player in all 40 Shrine Bowls.

* Cheyenne South is represented in the Shrine Bowl for the first time by James Marshall.

* Cody doesn’t have a player in the Shrine Bowl for the first time since 2003.

* Three six-man players — Snake River’s Conner Lee and Dubois’ Cody Flynn and Jesse Hawk — will play in the Shrine Bowl. Five six-man players played in 2012; only two played in 2011 and 2010.

Hanna head coach Tom Waring will take over the football program at Rawlins.

Waring, who has been Hanna’s football coach for the past four years, takes over for Brian Anderson.

Rawlins activities director Darlene O’Melia verified Waring’s hire via email to wyoming-football.com on Thursday.

Waring went 16-22 in his four years with the Miners, but led the team to the state six-man championship game in 2010.

Anderson went 1-23 in three years but did help Rawlins snap a 35- game losing streak last season.

A replacement for Waring in Hanna has not yet been named.

Former Lyman and Laramie coach Ted Holmstrom will be the new head coach at Riverside.

Holmstrom verified the hire via email on Wednesday.

The coach led Lyman for three years from 2009-11, helping the Eagles to a Class 2A runner-up finish his final year. He went 1-8 as the coach at Laramie last year.

Holmstrom replaces Adam Tri, who resigned earlier this spring after three seasons as head coach. Riverside went 2-7 in 2012.

Rawlins football coach Brian Anderson will no longer lead the Outlaw football team.

School board documents posted on the school district website made it unclear if Anderson resigned or was fired, but the document postings available here show the change was among several district-wide resignations or terminations approved by the Carbon County School District No. 1 board during its meeting Jan. 24. Anderson did not reply to an email sent last week seeking clarification, while Rawlins activities director Darlene O’Melia did not immediately reply to an email sent Tuesday by wyoming-football.com.

Anderson won just one game in three years as head coach in Rawlins and finished with an overall mark of 1-23. However, Rawlins did end its 35-game winless streak under Anderson in 2012 by beating Torrington 27-17.

A replacement has not yet been named.

Shoshoni football coach Rick Linblad has resigned after two seasons as head coach, the Riverton Ranger has reported.

Linblad took over a team that had lost 19 consecutive games and turned it into a contender, going 5-4 in 2011 and 6-3 last season. Both years, Shoshoni lost in the first round of the playoffs to Southeast.

Linblad stepped down to take a job out of the state, the Ranger reported.

Shoshoni is the seventh school in the state to have its coach resign or be fired. For a full list of coaching changes in the state this year, click here.
