The Class 1A 11-man East Conference play-in contest will be Tuesday in Douglas. The coin flip will be at 5 p.m. with the first half starting at 6 p.m.
Pine Bluffs, Lingle and Sundance are playing for two slots in the playoffs. The winner of the play-in will earn the No. 3 seed and go to Riverside to play Basin in the quarterfinals; the second-place team in the play-in earns the No. 4 seed and goes to Cokeville.

Big Horn has canceled its game this week with the Natrona sophomores, Big Horn AD Christy Wright said in an email Monday. The game was originally scheduled for Friday in Casper. Big Horn will keep the week open to rest and heal players.

With Tongue River dropping its 2011 season, several of the Eagles’ opponents have scheduled games in their place.
Glenrock, Burns and Wheatland have announced they will play sub-varsity squads from Natrona. Glenrock will host the Natrona team at 7 p.m. Friday (Sept. 9), Burns will host Natrona’s squad at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, Wheatland will play the Natrona JV at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21 in Casper.
Newcastle will keep its Week 6 date it had originally scheduled with Tongue River as an open week.
Lyman, who was scheduled to open the season with Tongue River, played Ririe, Idaho, last Friday.
Moorcroft (week 3), Wright (week 5) and Big Horn (week 7) have yet to announce replacement games and/or open weeks in place of the Tongue River game. When those schools confirm their plans for those weeks, that information will be posted here.

Four schools have not yet submitted schedules to wyoming-football.com. Coaches and administrators at Farson, Normative Services and Rocky Mountain did not respond to several email requests for schedules; the schedule for Midwest was still being adjusted at last notice and has not yet been completely finalized.
In a few cases, teams have listed different starting times for the same game. In those cases, I have listed the scheduled starting time provided by the home team.
Updates to the season schedule will be posted on the 2011 season page. Results will also be posted there throughout the season.
A couple items of note: The Zero Week schedule brought forth some intriguing games at the sub-4A level. Big Horn and Thermopolis, last year’s 2A title game participants, will face each other in the opening weekend, as will longtime rivals Wheatland and Torrington, whose series was almost cut short after Wheatland moved from 3A to 2A. Also, only one jamboree is scheduled for Zero Week this season, as Pine Bluffs and Southeast will meet in Burns.
The regular-season schedule includes only one neutral-site game: Southeast and Normative Services are scheduled to meet in Casper for the third consecutive year on Sept. 30.

Every couple of years, when the WHSAA has to build a new football schedule to accommodate changes to classifications and conferences, we get to see several matchups that we have never seen before.
In 2011, with Cheyenne South coming into the mix and several other schools in new conferences or classifications, we see more first-time matchups than we have in years.
Obviously, the biggest change comes with South, as the Bison will play their first year of varsity football in 2011. Therefore, it only makes sense that the Bison will establish new series with all of its opponents. This year, that’s all of 4A (Gillette, Sheridan, Natrona, Kelly Walsh, Cheyenne Central, Cheyenne East, Laramie, Rock Springs and Evanston).
South’s move prompted one other big schedule shift: that of Wheatland. With the Bison coming to 4A, the Bulldogs got bumped to 2A and will play four schools this year that they have never played before — all new conference rivals (Big Horn, Tongue River, Moorcroft and Wright).
Hulett and Dubois, both moving from 11-man to six-man, will also play several new opponents in 2011.
In all, there are 21 new matchups in 2011. Here is a quick week-by-week breakdown at the games involving teams that have never faced each other before (not counting any Week 0 games that aren’t 4A, which aren’t scheduled by the WHSAA):
