Since the 1A-2A state basketball tournaments are this week, and the 3A-4A tournaments are next week, I figured it was about time to do some updates to the state basketball tournament research I’ve been doing in between the football work that takes up the bulk of this site (and my time).

So, if you want to see the state basketball tournament scores from 1932 to the present, as well as a few tournaments prior to then, click here. It’s not really pretty, but the scores are all there, and for me, for now, that’s good enough.

Every score from every tournament, boys and girls, from 1932 forward, is posted there — with one exception. I still can’t find a score for a consolation semifinal game from the 1953 Class A tournament between Rawlins and Reliance. But other than that, every other score is there. Check it out.

By the way, as a Midwest High School alumnus, I’ve got to give mad props real quick to the Oilers, who won the 1A East Regional championship on Saturday. Midwest hasn’t been to the state semis since 1953, and if the Oilers can beat Ten Sleep on Thursday, they’ll end that way-too-long dry spell.

Just a quick post here to recognize the Rawlins girls basketball team, which ended a string of 76 consecutive losses by beating Newcastle last Saturday.

Rawlins Times SE Kirk Hanna put together a nice story about the Outlaws’ victory that has since been picked up by the AP — click here to read it.

I’ve got a little connection to the team, as I wrote a feature story about the streak last winter. Click here to read it.

The 76 consecutive losses is an unofficial state record, breaking the old unofficial mark of 63 straight losses the Kemmerer boys had in the late 1980s. In case you’re counting, it was 1,140 calendar days since Rawlins last won…. but now, no one has to count anymore.

In addition to the football research I’m doing, I am also deep into researching the state basketball tournaments, as well. I have posted most of the scores from the state tournaments — albeit in rudimentary form — at the basketball arm of this site.

The research for the girls tournaments is complete; I have every score from every girls state tournament game from the modern era (1976-2009).

The boys’ research, obviously, is a bit more complex, simply because the tournaments for boys stretch back much farther. However, I have obtained ALL BUT ONE score from 1946 forward.

The only score missing from the last 64 years is a consolation semifinal game from the Class A tournament in 1953, in which Rawlins defeated Reliance. I have looked in seven different newspaper microfilms for the score — the Casper Tribune-Herald, the Powell Tribune, the Laramie Republican Boomerang, the Rawlins Daily Times, the Rock Springs Daily Rocket/Rock Springs Miner, the Thermpolis Independent Record and the Wyoming State Tribune — and none of them had it. I’m up against a wall here so I’m appealing to YOU for help on this one…. If you can find it, let me know, and I’ll be forever appreciative.

Prior to 1946 is a bit more sketchy, but I haven’t put in a ton of time on those years yet, either.

Football is no longer alone on this site. I’ve added basketball.

If you click here, you’ll find a game-by-game history of the Wyoming state basketball tournament. It’s pretty bare bones right now, but the data is still good. I’ll pretty it up a little later on, maybe when I “have some time” or something….

Anyway, it’s awesome, and I’m planning on adding to it. Take a look.
